are the deck quarter pictures going to be updated to put the selection circle (blue) on all the quarters that are taken

I chose deck 2, #7.

I suggest starbase 5 put the crew quarters selection pictures in this topic (make it updated) with all the assigned crew quarters.

when can we move into the new defiant class starship.
is there going to be a mission 3 debriefing topic, where, maybe we could recieve full on our basic skills and recieve new skills, and recieve info about a new mission

No worries about crew quarters. Even if Starbase 5 doesn't get the pics updated all the time, I am writing everything down on paper.

Kevin Chapman: Deck 1, #10
Manhunter: Deck 1, #1
Simmo666: Deck 2, #15
Scooter: Deck 2, #16
Starbase 5: Deck 2, #10
carlos_technology: Deck 2, #7
sporto78: Deck 2, #1
kamakazie mcgrathzie: Deck 2, #4

The deadline for requests is when we transfer to the new ship. Anyone who doesn't pick quarters, or doesn't care where their quarters are, will get assigned quarters. (Don't worry, we won't leave you behind.)

Science labs are on deck 2, the two rooms with the yellow and black '13' on them. They are shared by medical and science.

I think the captain and the first officer should have the biggest quarters ( deck 1, #11 and #12), these should be reserved for captains and first officers, in case they want bigger quarters (not for the rest of the crew)(captains and first officers only)
because they would have the highest rank

is the room opposite the captains ready room the first officers ready room, I think it is.
deck 1, #11 and #12 are each on the same side as the ready rooms
If we get to change our quarter locations I might pick deck 1, #12, simmo do you think so too (if so you would probably want deck 1, #11, because it is close to the captains ready room)

All the quarters are the same size.

There is no such thing as a first officer's ready room. (You are supposed to be ready for anything. Grin )

Every day Carlos get 10 more posts ahead of me...

Quote:
<Cadet Obiko stumbles down the corridor, then hurries toward the group, looking visibly relieved>

^Thank goodness I found you, sir! I've been wondering around for an hour^

<Captain Simmo looks somewhat skeptically at the Cadet. "This isn't exactly the biggest ship in Starfleet, Cadet. You'll have to be more punctual">

^Y-y-yes sir!^

<Chapman and Trekker grin behind their hands at the terrified-looking "newbie">

<Simmo rolled his eyes to himself, murmuring "Damn greens" under his breath before taking the lead again>

Obiko is off to a good start. I like this ^^^^. He just needs to learn the difference between <actions> and "speech".

nope, the 2 quarters behind the bridge are bigger than the rest of the quarters, look at the deck 1 map at deck 1, #11 and #12, obviously for the captain and first officer, or are they just a different shape

Nope, measure it again. 11 and 12 are bigger one direction and smaller the other direction. They have the same number of square feet/meters/cubits/pixels.

okay, never mind about changing the location of my quarters, I really thought they were bigger.
but on intrepid class starships, the captain and guests have the biggest quarters, I think chakotays quarters are smaller than janeways quarters but bigger than the rest of the crews am I right. I will just leave it at
deck 2, #7

Yes, Janeway's quarters are the biggest. So are Picard's. The sizes of other quarters depends on how whether you are married, have kids, your rank, etc.

If I rember EF corectly I think that the senior staf also gets bigger ones. and it is on a difrent deck. Maby all the sinor staf could go deck 1 and jounior staf deck 2?

Just a throught. We probably shouldent do it becaus we are already settled in.

Another thing I thought of was maybe put people in the same department in the same area.

Wouldn't it be senior staff on deck 2? On the Enterprise-D senior staff is on lower decks than junior staff.

Another cofusing issue is: on Voyager there wasn't supposed to be kids. But then when Tom and B'lanna have a baby they have bigger quarters.

And I'm updating the pic now...

Kevin: I thought that if I did < and put in speech marks, then that would be the action of some-one else speaking. For example: <The other Cadets shuffled their feet. "Why are you so late," asked the Captain> If I put ^ in there, it might be confusing, I know I'd find it confusing.

Let me just get this straight...

^=In-game speech
//=Out-of-character speech.

I think most of us use:

Action: <Walks onto the bridge>
I speak: "How's the crew doing, number one?"
Someone else speaks: "The crew are fine sir", Commander Scooter said.

Ok, I have made a decision. All junior officers (ensign and lower) will have quarters on Deck 1. All senior officers (lieutenant jg and higher) will have quarters on Deck 2. Junior officers cannot request quarters on deck 2 and senior officers cannot request quarters on deck 1. Why? Because I say so right now. That's the only rule I'm going to make. I hope I don't come across as being mean, but we have to have some sort of order among the chaos.

Now what about Dobberman? He is only ensign because Simmo said so.

Oh, BTW, please don't spam just so you can change quarters. In fact, don't spam at all.

The system worked fine, the more you contribute, the higher your rank. I dont think it would work any other way on this forum. New cadets would always be cadets if they didnt play the Virtual Game.

I think one of two things should be done:

1) Dobberman or Vanhal can change it so that you need a LOT more posts to be promoted, seeing how much all of us post. We all keep our current ranks but from now on, it should take a lot more post to rise.

OR

2) We should all get a specific rank for the virtual game, but we get promoted by the number of missions rather than posts. (Current members retain their current rank of course) For example:

0 training missions - academy applicant
1 training mission - cadet
1 real mission - senior cadet (4th year or whatever)
2 real missions - ensign
3 real missions - no promotion
4 real missions - lieutenant j.g.
5 real missions - no promotion
6 real missions - lietanant
7 real missions - no promotion
8 real missions - no promotion
9 real missions - lt. commander

etc.

Something along those lines.

The only reason I think that something should be done is that people who have been here the longest / have the most experience are getting outranked by the brand new spamming/talkative people.

Wouldnt that be a bit hard, and since I'm in charge of the Virtual Game, and dont have admin access, I couldnt do that. Vanhal doesnt seem to want to have anything to do with the game any more, and Dobberman is busy lately.

But I like the idea, very good. Wink

Well, I just think that it's kind of annoying that new people are getting higher ranks than the experienced people. The fight between Carlos and Kamakazie is a perfect example. Kamakazie has more experience with the game but because carlos just happened to post a lot more (not necessarily spamming), he got to be a senior security officer, which is definetly not fair. What happens some new guy somehow happens to outpost me, or even you? (not likely, since you run the whole thing) Should either of us, who have been here from the start, have to give up our positions just because some new guy comes and has a lot to talk about? No, it's not fair, we have the most "experience". We have been here the longest, so we should be the higher ranking people, if only for the game. Think about it. Even if they don't like it, everyone has to admit that it's fair.

So the admins should do what they did with HorckDude's rank (when they had him rear admiral), and give fixed ranks. I send update lists to them to show them who needs updating, and they do that. The problem with carlos and kamakazie was because kamakazie said he was never posting again, so it was logical to say carlos, who was most experienced of those left, should be the new chief. But now carlos is first officer and kamakazie has his security chief position back. But if someone simply outposts a chief, they will not take thier place, they will just look strange having a higher rank taking orders from a low rank. Dont worry, you wont lose the chief engineer position Wink

I like the updated pics, but can you make the holodecks bigger,
I don't like the idea of making you gain rank after each mission, I like posting to gain rank, because I want to keep my current rank (commander) then become captain when I have enough posts, which will probably be 50 posts or more

The meanest thing in the world, that I can think of, is if someone was just about to move up in rank, and then Vanhal changed the rank levels, and continued to change them, so a person had about 1000 posts, but was still Lieutenant, or something..

They don't need to be bigger. They are already the size of a cargo bay. The inside of a holodeck is bigger than the outside when a program is running.

He did that before if you all remember. I never liked it. I had just made lieutenant commander (at 100 posts) and then I said this is too easy and he multiplied them all by 10, and I was a cadet 2nd year only. Then he set it to double the originals and I still complained being lieutenant (jg), and some of you will remember I sent pm's to you saying, tell Vanhal/Dobberman to restore the old ranks, but then he found my pm's and told me off :-( . But if we didn't change the ranks then I would be too high probably and we'd have too many captains.

Yes, but I thought it should go in a forum where people can see it.

That might have been construed as spamming, sorry.

I like the updated pics, but can you make the holodecks bigger,
I don't like the idea of making you gain rank after each mission, I like posting to gain rank, because I want to keep my current rank (commander) then become captain when I have enough posts, which will probably be 50 posts or more

You would keep you're current rank and just move on from their.

I think we'll just call you commander still, so not to have 2 captains. We do have an admiral who we call ensign, so I suppose we can do it again. Anyone who wants to do the same as these, feel free to do so.

Yes, I think when we become captains, we should be commanders in the game until get offered our own ship.

Like Riker. He got offered his own ship a few times, didn't he. I think he took one once, but came back when it was destroyed, or something...

No, I don't think so. He was captain of the Hathaway, but that was only for the war game. He was captain of the Enterprise a few times, like when Picard was borgified and when he was captured by the Cardassians (but there are four lights! argh), and in the anti-time future that Q created in All Goods Things.

Riker was offered command of the USS Melbourne in the ep where Picard was borgified. But at Wolf359, they found all those derelict ships, and one was the melbourne. Lucky he refused, huh.

Wasn't that in an episode where the Enterprise got Kurn and the Klingon ship got Riker as a sort of exchange program?

yes, I guess that was. it was also where the klingons found an organism on the hull and they thought the enterprise did that so they might have destroyed the enterprise

It's doable, but would require a lot of rewriting of the core files, as well as some database modifications. It's a lot of work that can be avoided it everyone doesn't spam and doesn't go on mad posting sprees.

I still think that my idea of having the game ranks based on experience would be the best thing for us to do. It would be a lot more fair for everyone. But we wouldn't all have to start over. We would keep our current ranks and just be promoted by the new system.

Or I try to keep a list and everyone checks that in the player status. So it would be, you are what you are now and then it's frozen in the game and I deal with promotions and stuff. Okay?

Everyone keeps the rank you are now. (These are listed below). After every 3 missions (or a super-spectacular thing) you get promoted (unless you'd be at captain, then you'd stay at commander). From any cadet, you graduate to ensign after you're training mission.

[list:53abe0a0c8]Simmo666 - Captain - Promoted to commodore when it happens in forums, then every 4 missions after that
Scooter - Commander - Promoted to captain if new ship is available
Carlos_Technology - Commander - Promoted to captain if new ship is available
Dobberman - Ensign - Promoted to Lieutenant (jg) in 2 missions
Sporto78 - Lt. Commander - Promoted to Commander in 3 missions
Flix - Cadet - Promoted to Ensign after this mission
Obiko Dozen-Handed - Lt. JG. - Promoted to Lieutenant after 3 missions
Starbase 5 - Lt JG - Promoted to Lieutenant after 2 missions
Kamakazie Macgrathzie - Lieutenant - Promoted to Lt. Commander after 1 missions.
Kevin Chapman - Ensign - Promoted to Lt. JG after 2 missions.
LeprichaunTrekker - Ensign - Promoted to Lt JG after 3 missions.
Manhunter - Ensign - Promoted to Lt. JG after 1 missions[/list:u:53abe0a0c8]

I guess that would be a good idea now that you changed the experience rank idea, but don't we already have a new ship available
(the defiant class)

well, scooter, we can't become captains until we get a new ship (or is it the defiant class ship)
thats what simmo said.
but there is a rare case (some captains served on the same ship (eg. the crew of the Enterprise-A)
and since we will become captains soon, we wouldn't want to have 3 captains on the same ship now would we

You would be a captain IF you got your own ship (eg we had two different ships in the virtual game - 2 different stories completely - we may do this if we get too big)

yes, and it might turn into maybe 10 small ships all defiant class (which is called a fleet)
and if we have 2 ships would it be a good idea to have more than 1 virtual game forum (eg. 2 virtual game forum)

and if you are calling me confused, don't because I am not confused
and if you are calling me a spammer, don't because I don't spam, I answer questions that people ask, even though the answers might be small

Eventually what might happen is after Simmo becomes an admiral, carlos and I would each command a ship, and Simmo would command the fleet.

yes, and If I am given temporary command again (unless I get to command a ship as a captain) I might let Scooter get some command experience, by using the holodeck on the defiant class ship, while he would get to command temporalily, and if he needs my help he would leave a message on the intercom (since I already have command experience)

edit: is this confusing

Haha. We only just started to share quarters. During mission 3a we had exactly 8 people. We knew there would be more members for a while already, but the Vanhal phenomenon delayed us getting our new ship until now. Mission 3b will be over tonight for those in Europe and this afternoon for those in North America. Mission 4 will begin sometime next week on the new defiant-class ship which is still in need of a name.
