I'd have to say a holodeck would be the best, that way we could make the 10to5 and actually go on it Grin

Ok, I'm picking holodeck because you can go in and escape from the crappy real world and lock the door, lockout the controls, so nobody can ruin your fun.

are you calling Earth crappy, there is nothing wrong with it. but It would be fun to lock out the controls so that noone can use the holodeck, but if someone did that on our new ship Simmo would get mad and demote them

Reah, but you can replicate them (or the parts for them) with a replicator, cant you? So then, you can have it all with a replicator too. But I still voted for holodeck, it's more colourful.

Oh yeah, when I thought about replicator, I was thinking that you could replicate parts of the holodeck too, I didn't think of making the other with it, and they'd be real too. But I'm sticking to holodeck Wink

Replicators are good because they would bring the end to the way of life as we know it. With replicators, we can just replicate food, so we don't need to buy it. If nobody needs to buy food, they don't need to have a job, and there would be no more taxes. Money would become worthless. We would be able to do whatever we wanted for the rest of our lives.

Good gods, 27 replies and we're still on topic. Must be some sort of record for the last week...

I thought the replicator could only replicate food. Or are there big industrial size ones?

There's an episode where Data replicates a violin. They can also replicate clothing. You can pretty much replicate anything as long as it isn't a living thing and isn't too big. ie) you can't go around replicating starships.

You can replicate gagh, but it will be dead. Just doesn't taste the same as fresh. There are plenty of other Klingon dishes that aren't alive as well.

other things you can replicate are

food supplements (bland tasteless foods)

is there any other kinds of items you can replicate, if so, what are they

You can replicate tools for fixing stuff, like a hammer, a hypospray cartridge, drinks, and the most amazing replicator of all (Janeway's replicator) can even replicate burnt food, or is it that it can only replicate burnt food? Wink

You can replicate furniture and other big things too. In a TNG episode there was a special room full of big replicators for that kind of thing, Data and Worf were there trying to pick a wedding present for Keiko and O'Brien.

some holodeck items become replicated matter when they are touched, and that chair couldn't be beamed out because it was too big

The chair couldn't be beamed out because it didn't exist, nothing to do with it's size.

well, big cargo objects can be beamed, most holographic matter can't be beamed except for a mobile emitter (EMH).

I think it was 1 to 2 meters high

A mobile emitter isn't holographic. That's the whole point. It gives you something to transport because you can't transport photonics.

Just shows how little idea people have of measurements if you don't use them. Like 6 year olds, when asked a metre, would hold their hands any distance apart, while I, as a 16 year old, would have a pretty good idea.

I think it was the fact that it was a hologram, not the height. I'd say it would need to be a standard height, not 40 metres (120 feet) high or anything.
