Commander Luke asked me for some suggestions for the dedication plaque he is making for the Serenity. I thought I'd give everyone else the same opportunity. I'll start things off with a few I found suitable.

Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.

You will never be able to discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.

Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.

Everybody should think of thier favoret poem or quote. Remember I would like it to have something to do with discovery, knowledge or courage. Oh and try to keep it to a marginal size, two sentences at most. If what you want to put in is longer than that just take a part of it and post that.

-thanks

Wouldn't you want a quote of peace since this is a peaceful ship?

To be or not to be, that is the question.
No matter what I choose, no matter how much I buy, the ones I love will always be the ones who pay. Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words, "with great parents comes great reliability." This is my gift; their purse. Who am I? I'm Dobberman.

I suggest you use "Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings". from the 3 suggestions you posted in that post

I was looking on a quote site and how about.

"There is no way to peace; peace is the way."

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."

"Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand."

"The world is so fast that there are days when the person who says it can't be done is interrupted by the person who is doing it."

"Our patience will achieve more than our force."

"To confine our attention to terrestrial matters would be to limit the human spirit."

The last one is my favorite

Of all the suggested ones i would go with these three:

"You will never be able to discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore."

"Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought."

"There is no way to peace; peace is the way."

Well, scooter you are the first officer of the serenity you're suggestion will be most noted, maybe we should wait for simmo?

Anyway To make the plaque I need the information as follows.

Stardate launched.
What shipyard assembled it. ex: Utopia planitia shipyars, mars

and that is about it, if i think of anything else i'll post it.

The year right now is 2378, so the stardate would be somewhere between stardate 55000 and 55999. It is August 1st today, so it would be sometime between 55500 and 55750. Best guess is 55625.8 for stardate launched.

Shipyards alphabetical (pick one, doesn't matter a whole lot):
40 Eridani-A Starfleet Construction Yards
Antares Ship Yards
Baikonur Cosmodrome (don't pick this one)
Beta Antares Ship Yards
Copernicus Ship Yards
Earth Station McKinley
Marin County Starfleet Yards
San Francisco Fleet Yards (used most often, maybe too often)
Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards

Have you actually figured out the stardate system? If so, how does it work? I've wondered for years. Grin

The way I was doing it wasn't very good. Figuring out the first two digits is easy because we know the system. The last three digits were always picked somewhat randomly (within a reasonable range). I like the system Carlos posted. It's not 100% perfect, but it's the best one I've seen.

The thing I don't like about stardates is that they're based on the TNG seasons instead of the actual year. Someone once said that in the Trek universe, stardates are based on the rotation of some pulsar that can be seen from almost every place in the galaxy.

Commander Luke, please change the launch date on the dedication plaque to be stardate 55585.8 thank you.

It's not my fault. That's what it happens to be.

The year is 2378, so the first two digits are 55.
The day was August 1, so the last three digits were 585.
It was 7:22pm PDT, so the number after the decimal point is an 8.
