1mb is the fastest we have over here. 100mb a minute! Thats an average of 1.666mb a second! We're nowhere near that fast. Wah! The most my dad will even consider getting is 128kb. Please post messages to convince him. Wink

128kb - 15.00
512kb - 25.00
1mb - 40.00

Can anyone think of a way of me getting 10 a month other than a job.

Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah!

56k. Its just no good any more.

Question: 56k does not go 56kps. At the moment, its connected at 50.6kps. And the usual transfer rate is 4kps average when downloading. (and they say 128k is twice as fast). Does broadband ALWAYS transfer at the fastest speed? Such as if we got 128k, would it transfer at (or close to) 128kps?

Because for that 128k would be fast enough for just downloading wouldnt it?

128kps would mean 1 meg in 8 seconds right?

56 kilo BITS not kilo BYTES! Wink Devide the number by 8 and you'll get the proper transfer rate in kilobytes (approx)

So its 7 kilobytes?!?! How come it sometimes transfers faster than that like 15k and once 33k, 38k, and 42k!?!?

And is it 1 megabyte broadband, or 1 megabits? And how much is that?

anyway mines like 500k I cant remember the EXACT speed but most downloads will average 200k a second. But that of course depends on the website i'm downloading from etc.

Argh. Now I'm confused. Please people, make sure to capitalize your abbreviations properly. There's a HUGE difference between MB, Mb, mB, and mb.

I have no clue how fast my connection is. My router says the outside connection is 10Mb. I get the same average as Commander Luke, but it all depends how fast the connection is on the server you download from.

M = mega
m = milli
B = bytes
b - bits

How does carlos not have a job and actually live? Maybe hes from a rich family. Wha? Huh? Wait we shouldnt discuss this should we. Carlos tells Dob, Dob locks the topic, we make a new topic to continue it, and then it all starts again.

I think he lives with his parents. (Nothing wrong with that. Most of us here do the same thing.)

Dobberman with broadband means it won't take forever to upload Virtual Enterprise mod. w00t!

I understand what Carlos is saying by how he gets the change that people forget to pick up from vending machines. The only thing I wonder about is the fact that that seems to be a major source of income for him.

You'd need to find a LOT of coins then. But you must be very lucky to always find this money. Smile

He doesn't need to find a lot of money because he lives with his parents.

I don't mind it when people withholding personal information for privacy reasons, but it urinates me off when people lie about themselves. Carlos has stated that he is 26 and lives by himself, but has no job. There's nobody with the last name Technology in all of Ontario. You can't pay the bills with money from vending machines!

If Carlos really isn't 26, I would prefer he not tell us any age at all, rather than lie to us. Same goes for his name. If his name isn't Carlos Technology, I would prefer he say so rather than lie to us. I've never told anyone my real name (though you could figure out my first name). It doesn't matter. Just don't LIE. If you mommy told you not to tell people online about yourself, then don't say anything at all. I don't want any more lies.

Dobberman: you can lock this topic if you deem it necessary. I just had to get that off my chest. I'm not looking for the truth, just an end to the lies.
