My computer just died so now I'm on my roomate's. I don't know what happened, it just stopped working and won't turn on anymore. Needless to say, it almost took an 8-story flight out the window.

So now I won't be on IRC for a while and will be restricted in my visits here, though I will still come.

Oh, one more thing: AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!! Grrr!

If I was in Arizona, I would come over there and try to fix it. :-( Two of my friends had a similar problem at the same time, and they both had to replace their power supply.

Yeah, that sucks. And yeah, its probably the power supply if it won't turn on at all.

No, it turns on, windows just doesn't boot up anymore. This same thing happened last year when we had a major power outage down here. It surged and fried something on my hard drive. We managed to fix it but we knew it would die again someday. That day has come. Last time it took over a month to fix (my dad is an electrical engineer so he knows how to fix these things). So I don't know how long it will take this time. Could be a while. Grrr!

Don't you use a surge protector?

Can you bypass Windows and boot into DOS? If you can get to the DOS prompt, you might be able to fix the problem by reinstalling windows. At the very least you might be able to backup your critical data. Usually I would recommend formatting the drive, or even repartitioning, but considering the severity, you might want to do a low-level format.

Unless its the motherboard. Then theres no chance in hell. I had my motherboard crash about 6 months ago. I was in the middle of battlezone II and then Poof! Blue screen of death! pissed me off to no end, good thing it was still covered under warranty.

At times I've had three or more computers in my room. I tossed them into storage because they're too old to be of any use anymore. What I really need is another video card and monitor. Grin

Speaking of Blue screens of death I had a Black screen of death once, same as blue, but black, also a purple one.
And my chip fryed once.
That stoped it booting aswell compleatly.
Windows not booting could be a bad boot sector.

Half the times my Windows 98 crashed, it usually was a black screen with a small purple and blue square on it.

Everything crashes too much when I use it. I must be bad luck to them all.

Ha ha ha, there already are.

We have 2 comps in my apartment, my roomate's, which is for audio/video editing and mine, which is for games. Between the two of us, we can do anything. Na na!

Some configuration files were corrupt. We think that surge last year fried it so it was acting shaky. So we fixed the files and replaced the power supply.

Before any of you say it, I know. You guys were right, I never disputed it though. Wink

Urk, a Mac. In my opinion, they're just not as good, and I don't like them as much. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with them, but I dont like them.

Oh, good to see your comp is fixed.

Macs are better for somethings, and PCs are better for others. The newer Macs look really nice.

I've come to see that PC's are better for games but that's it. Macs are better for just about everything else. I'm into games so I still have my PC.

A dual-boot Mac/Win machine would be nice.
