Introducting, the Serenity texture mod for ctf_Deralict2 YEAH!

It's not 100% finished, but it's a good start. This first release, a Virtual Game exclusive, overwrites most of the textures by !AAH! to turn the USS Nukem into the USS Serenity. Download it here!

(Note: only for use by EfMods members. Do NOT distribute to the public. It is for private use only. I will not be held legally responsible for anything in any way.

Use it with Simmo's Akira texture mod for an even different look.

EDIT:
Here's a Columbia texture mod for Defiant map while I'm at it. Just changes the dedication plaque; nothing else yet. Download here. Same rules apply as above.

Any of the files I try to download from your server are ALWAYS corrupt: Those skin files, and those PK3 files.

EDIT: I also made this a sticky.

Should we really keep using the Serenity? Perhaps we should make a new ship for server VG. Just an idea, as not everyone on the Serenity goes to the VG server.

I dont think we want to go making another ship.

We've had 5 ships in the VG so far. (Yes 5!)

Quote:
USS 10to5 (Original VG Ship, Currenly Docked at Starbase 460: No Mission, 10to5 Class)

USS Nile (Training Vessel, Currently Docked at Starbase 460: No Mission, Danube Runabout)

USS Hellespont (Very Minor Craft, Severely damaged and Scrapped, Defiant Class)

USS Columbia (Currently in use, Docked at Starbase 460: Awaiting Mission, Defiant Class)

USS Serenity (Currently in use, Antrella System on Recovery Mission, Nova Class)

I dont think we want another ship.

If you don't want it to be Serenity, don't use the little mod I made and leave it as the USS Nukem.

Corrupt? I'll have to look into that.

EDIT: Sure enough, corrupt. I have no idea why that is.

EDIT: I'm reuploading with a different program and it seems to fix the problem. Try again in 20 to 30 minutes and by then I should have everything reuploaded.

Ok, all files have been reuploaded and they are not corrupt anymore. I also updated the Defiant texture mod to include the Master Systems Display. That's about it for that map I think.

Still though, the text based VG is rather different from Server based VG(RP). Having a new ship exclusively for Server VG would be a good idea.

BIG NEWS!

Starbase 5 has done a new texture for those hatches in the floor on Deralict 2. Looks just like the rest of the carpet, so it's more realistic like on StarTrek. If you look hard you can see the outline faintly, or if you remember where they are, and they still blow up.

Simmo pointed out to me last night that it can be hard to tell what deck you're on at times because the signs are hard to read. I thought they looked rubbish, so I made brand new ones from scratch. They're based on a pic in the Encyclopedia, and they're so bloody incredible that I even amaze myself. Not only can you tell what deck you are on, but they also help you remember what is on that deck.

Download it here, that's an order!

After everyone had left. You were shooting at the deck 5 label on deck 6.

Doesn't really matter, point is we both made new ones. I'd like to have a look at yours. I based mine on the "Welcome to Starbase 74" picture in the ST Encyclopedia, 2nd edition, on page 447. Starbase 5 and I decided to try it because it was the only rectangular sign.

Sorry for the double-post, but this is my thread after all.

Bigger and better!
New version of the Deralict2 texture mod out this morning/afternoon. Right now, it's 2.1MB but it's that much more better than yesterday's 1.4MB version.

Simmo has redone the dedication plaque and deck labels. A few pictures have been moved to different rooms, and some pictures have been replaced.

And because I'm in such a good mood, I won't make you scroll up to download it. Here's the link again: http://www.vmb-ca.com/virtualgame/zzzDeralict2Mod.pk3

When we make new textures, we make them bigger than the old ones so that they look better, and that increases the overall size of the PK3.

BUMP

Sorry again, but I'd like to point out the changes to the first post in this thread. I've hyperlinked all the maps, skins, etc. and indicated how important it is to have each of them. People were getting lost in the plain directory listing of the virtualgame folder and other people just weren't downloading stuff and then complaining that everyone is Munro in yellow hazard suit.

Down for the evening/night, but I hope to be back up bright and early tomorrow morning/afternoon for the day, and again on Saturday, and AGAIN on Monday. (Sorry, not going to be up Sunday except maybe at night and then only if Dogbert puts it up.)

I'm willing to RP now, but it seems awkward that yesterday and the day before that we RPed when Scooter WASN'T there and today when Scooter WAS there we never got around to it because we were getting kicked all the time. What ever! :-( Wish scooter wasn't here today because then we'd have already started RPing.

I kicked you because you called me a liar and I kicked Manhunter because he kept shooting the hatches open. I said I would kick people that don't RP and that's what I was doing.

Secondly, you should be grateful that I allowed you to use my server when I wasn't here.

First, you kicked us for stupid reasons

Secondly, you didn't allow me to use it i just figured that when logalot asked me then i figured i don't know what to do so manhunter told me that there is a shortcut on your desktop so i set it up.

The winners have been picked. Find out who got quarters on deck 2 in the latest update of the Serenity texture mod for Deralict 2.

Also be sure to visit Simmo's quarters. He's updated his picture.

Not a problem to update PK3 again. I'll wait a while before I do though.

Alexandria, yes, but not Munro. I don't look like him that much. I don't know how to take pics of skins.

Hey, can anyone e-mail me the new patch? My internet is... well... it's kinda convulsing on itself... Some sites work, some not. Unfortunately, the server with the patch doesn't, buy my e-mail does... So if anyone could send it to me, that would be nice... I've just realized how boring my life is without the internet. :-(

Virtual_Game_Dude wants to play. Should I let him? If he becomes a problem, I'll have to change the password, which is a shame because we haven't even been up for a month yet.

EDIT: I see people have been having trouble with the latest texture mod. We've encountered the problem here also, but not sure what causes it. It IS installed on the server. I got it to work the second time I loaded EF, but Manhunter can't get it to work.

My theory is that due to the increasing size of the package, and the increasing amount of new textures, the texture file has become so large that the textures may not be loaded. I theorize that a possible solution to the problem would be to make a backup copy of the ctf_deralict pk3 file, and copy all the new textures into it. Therefore, when the map tried to load the original textures, all it would find would be the new ones.

Oh, and maybe the "Caution_bar" picture should be replaced, that's what makes the inside of the doors (The part that you can't see when it's closed, eh, you know what I mean) look like it was taken from a construction site.

LOL, another interesting day on Scooter's server.

I see Dobber was wondering about the pic of Alexandria in my quarters. I think she's hot and it's an excuse to put her in the game. The pics are screenshots from my hazsucks mod.

Thanks to all to played today, even though I couldn't be there, but I see Dobberman was there. Hooray! Server will be down tomorrow, but it will be back again on Monday and hopefully I'll have time to join the fun.

Actually, is was I that was wondering about the pic.

It was an interesting day. I missed the first (and best) mission because I was in the shower (both in my quarters on the ship and in real life Grin ). Then we eventually switched to the Defiant map and Simmo/Dobberman mutinied against us. So it was the 2 of them against Lightsoup and I. Then of course while all that was happening, Carlos ran around the ship doing the random and useless things that he does. Na na!

this is kinda stupid but wensday night i think we RPed and scooter wasn't there, on Thursday Scooter wasn't there and we RPed, Friday Scooter was there and we didn't RP, Saturday Scooter wasn't there and we RPed, and today Scooters here and were not RPing. Seems like whenever Scooter is here we never RP and when hes not we do RP. Pretty weird.

and your not gonna get him now because were going to church. and the server will be up at the earliest tonight at 7pm EST (which is 4pm our time [PST])

And honestly, we do RP better without Scooter there strangely.

I don't appreciate you starting rumors about me Dogbert.

I am not power hungry. Me not being there during RP is just coincidence. I would have been there Friday if I didn't have homework, and I would have been there Saturday if I hadn't gone away with my friends from high school.

I didn't want to put the server up because we weren't going to be home. I am worried that if my computer gets too hot the wad of paper holding the floppy drive in the right spot might catch fire. Probably a bit over-protective on my part, but better safe than sorry. Also, the server has been up for the past two days. I don't want to put it up too much right now, because I want to see if my ISP notices I'm running a server. If we get caught, we lose our Internet for violating our contract. Third, there's more to life than RPG and you all need a break.

I've taken the server down, because Dogbert put it up without my permission. I'll put it back up at 5:00pm PDT (half an hour from now). It'll be down for the night as usual, and back up again tomorrow morning/afternoon (probably between 6am and 7am PDT).

I think I need to stress a few things. When we're going to RP, let's RP. Last time Luke and I wanted to RP, but Manhunter and Dogbert were fooling around. Specifically, Manhunter was shooting hatches open. Since I told Carlos he wasn't to do that anymore, I can't make an exception for Manhunter. That's just not fair. People who run around shooting hatches open at the start of the game will get kicked, and the map will be restarted. When you come to the server, come prepared to roleplay as soon as you enter the game.

Not a rumor a JOKE! Emphasize "think" and the "j/k" at the end

Continuing what he said:

I am not power hungry. Me not being there during RP is just coincidence. I would have been there Friday if I didn't have homework, and I would have been there Saturday if I hadn't gone away with my friends from high school.

"power hungry" = joke
"coincidence" = obviously What ever!

Here we go again with what he said:
I didn't want to put the server up because we weren't going to be home. I am worried that if my computer gets too hot the wad of paper holding the floppy drive in the right spot might catch fire. No Comment

Once again we'll look at what he said:

Why you take it down?

Here we go again with what he said:

I see that all you said about me was: "but Manhunter and Dogbert were fooling around." next word "Specifically," Don't see nothing about me after that. I wanted to roleplay but you guys weren't starting so i roamed the ship!

I don't remember the specifics, but I kicked you because you called me a liar, and I don't appreciate that. Lately you've been doing nothing but trying to cause trouble. I'm tired of you constantly criticizing me. Stop hiding behind the computer screen and talk to me face to face.

say if manhunter called me a liar on simmos server when simmo wasn't around. i can't kick him and even if i had the rcon i wouldn't kick him because their ain't no point.

I'd like to add that maybe logalot should take the rcon over when we get the other cp going with the permanent server because he is the one that started all of this and scooter doesn't give warnings he just says "quiet doctor" if hes captain and i'm an officer of another ship on that ship. he could at least say "You have a warning, <name>. Next time you will be kicked. Just a suggestion, so don't eat my head off again!

Manhunter calling you a liar is different because it doesn't happen often. I get called a liar all the time by you and the rest of our family, and it urinates me off because I am NOT a liar. (Yes, we are very disfunctional.)

If Logalot starts his own server, of course he would have rcon. (you just pulled a Carlos yourself)

I said "quiet doctor" because whoever the doctor was kept pressing the gesture key, and it gets very annoying when people hit the gesture key over and over and over and over...

The problem is that too often someone starts fooling around (ie. something you wouldn't do if StarTrek was real life) and everyone else joins in while I stand there getting bored because I want to roleplay. So I have to keep telling people to get back to their stations. Then you changed your skin to that screaming girl, and I couldn't stand it long enough to give you warning so I just kicked you. Usually I do give warnings, but I only kick if it's necessary.

Bottom line: stay in character and you'll be fine.

Happy 2000th post to me!

The server has been up since a bit after 7am PDT. Thus far only Carlos has ventured in and talked to himself.

I wasn't talking to myself, I was asking you questions
I have figured out how to change the mode in EF

g_pmoddisintegration #
1 turns it on, 0 turns it off. you need to restart the map for it to take effect.

some other mods to turn on :

Well I wasn't watching you talk to yourself. I just noticed it in the server log. And I already knew how to change the mode in EF. I've got the complete server command documentation printed out.

I'm not afraid to admit I got them from you. If I told Carlos, "I got them from Dogbert," then Carlos would post another message asking Dogbert where HE got them. It's faster to say it comes from effiles, and it helps prevent Carlos from catching up to Simmo again. Na na!

Let's get this clear. I am mapping the 10to5! It isn't a shuttle. It's too big to be a shuttle. It's a bit like a runabout, but for longer missions. It's not completely my fault. Vanhal made it this small in the first place because it didn't need to be bigger. When I redid the deck plan, it got a bit bigger, but it was still the size it needed to be. Eventually we outgrew it, and rather than keep increasing the size, we went with a new ship. This map is for those of us who served aboard her to remember back to the old days when Vanhal and Dobberman started the Virtual Game. There had been a lot of talk about mapping it, and a few attempts were made, but nothing ever became of it.

And I can't make the waverider because I don't know enough about it and we probably never will and I don't like non-canon stuff.

I see a problem with the transporter texture on the 10to5 map, sometimes it looks like the part where you fall off the map, but the actual texture is there

Carter only has two MP3s IIRC, so my AT&T voice for her will do until somebody finds a girl to play her. TextAloudMP3 voices are rubbish. Dobberman used them in the beginning and I made better ones with AT&T Natural Voices.

Good news today! The repackaged Serenity texture mod is available for download now.
Here's the link: http://www.vmb-ca.com/virtualgame/zzzzzz.pk3

What you have to do is delete ctf_Deralict2.pk3 from your BaseEF folder, and rename zzzzzz.pk3 to ctf_Deralict2.pk3 and put in your BaseEF folder. Deleting the old file guarantees you won't see the old textures ever again, and renaming the new the same as the old is because that's what I did on my server, so you have to do it too or it will auto-download. You can also just delete ctf_Deralict2.pk3 from your BaseEF and let Holomatch auto-download the new one from my server, though it's probably slower that way.

using the autodownload is slower, my connection should go to 256 or 512 kbps but it only goes at 2kbps

The new pk3 is cool, except for 1 fatal flaw. You guys didn't include the ARENA file in the pk3, so it doesn't appear in the multiplayer menu. I managed to fix it though. All you have to do is take the ARENA file from the old version and stick it in the new using packscape. Though one of you guys might want to update the new pk3 just to make things simpler.

If I put my server up, my next skin pack gets delayed a bit because I need all my memory for running MD3View. I've tried running EF and MD3View at the same time but it crashes whichever program I open second. And if I don't work on skinning, I might want to work on mapping, which requires even more memory because efRadient just eats up my RAM. Don't worry, it'll be up tomorrow or Saturday. Wink

Dont worry, we understand your problems, my computer runs out of memory every 5 minutes if I try to do any textures (with or without any other programs open).

But remember "The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few, or the one", LOL, dunno why I put that, think about it.

Manhunter just downloaded the new map, overwrote the old one, and it still tried to auto-download! Not sure what's wrong, though his EF installation has been known to act strangely. He didn't bother letting it finish, the impatient little boy that he is, so I don't know if it works after that or not.

EDIT: I've been thinking. Anybody who wants to play on our server is now forced to download the Serenity textures map. Not exactly what I had in mind.

I guess we need to try to rework the normal texture mod stuff. I'm working on it at the moment.

Anyway, clocks go back tonight so I had an extra hour.

Okay, my report on this map mod thingy. I had the map and everything and then went to the server and it started downloading so i thought okay fine download it. (aprox. download time: 20 mins max) So i did stuff in that time and then in the last minute i went back to full screen and it finished downloading and loaded but when it finished loading it started to reaload again. I let it load again (even though it takes long for that deralict2 map to load) and it went in! walked around saw that all the textures were there and left because nobody was there. So it's perfectly fine.

Well my new file should just fix that, no more modified ctf_deralict2.pk3 file, just back to the old file again.

Here's the link:
http://www.vmb-ca.com/virtualgame/zzzDeralict2Mod.pk3

It has to be used with the Nukem's original map. I'm going to shut down the server, put the old map back on, along with the updated texture mod, and start it up again. Everybody test and report your findings!

Scooter, you need to move zzzzzz.pk3 out of your BaseEF folder, its running the map from that file!

Also, when you all [hopefully] get in, check out the briefing room/shuttlebay.

I had no problems on my computer. The new pics look good Simmo! (Maybe a bit more saturation on the two portraits in my quarters?) I'm thinking of adding the new levelshot, but I'm scared to try it based on previous experiences. In theory it should work, but Simmo and I use different programs to work with PK3 files.

Note carefully folks: we're not overwriting the map anymore. We're modding it again. You have to put Nukem's map back in your BaseEF and overwrite the one Simmo put together. Then download the updated texture mod.

And for those who are lazy or don't know how to follow instructions Na na! :

First, download this map again from effiles:
CTF_DERALICT2

Then download the serenity mod from scooter: (Simmo: hey, what about me?!)
zzzDeralict2Mod

Then your done and can play it.

But the group of maps at the top of your post don't get it directly from filefront. The link in my post, all you have to do is click for download. On the ones in your very first post, you have to click to get to filefront then choose where to get it from and then download it. What if people are lazy? Na na!

Personally i find it anoying to have to click from effiles to filefront then where i can download it from and then finally download it.

BTW, that Seska skin is corrupt in your link (very first post)

Well, not all of them, the ERP/EFMods ones are directly from his server. Oh, and Scooter/Dogbert, can you put the srver up?

I'll have to reupload Seska. I don't link directly to FileFront because there are four different ways to download from them and I let people pick which one they want.

Server is up. Oh, and I'd like to see you try kick my arse Lightsoup. Na na!

Ok, I checked out ctf_Akira, and while it has it's flaws, so do the other maps, so I'm adding it to the server. A link will be posted in the first message of this thread along with all the other downloadables.

EDIT: I also test downloaded the Seska skin and it worked fine.

Mapping takes time. Look at the 10to5 map. It's really small, compiles in only 1 minute, but takes forever to actually map because you have to take your time to do a good job.

A few changes to the server this week. Installed Holomatch Server Update v1.2.2 so that should take care of the bugs and add a few features. Hazard Team B in First Contact Uniforms has been added to the list of required skins.

Yup, when the server is down it will give an error message. I like it because I don't have to update this topic every time it goes up or down, and you can use the status page to connect when the server is up.

I gave it the EFMods Forums color scheme so that it fits in well.

Updated the skins list before I head off to bed. Added Laz Rojas's doctor pack as REQUIRED. Only the ECH and ECH in FC are installed, so don't bother trying to use the imperial, highnoon, and hazard ones. Theoretically it would probably work, but those others aren't required so I don't have them and you'll just be Munro in yellow haz. Na na!

I also redirected some of the links to effiles to free up some space on my server.

With the release of my third skin pack, it's now a required skin for the server because Logalot requested it for that reason.

Also, it is unfortunate that I must announce that RP sessions on my server are suspended for three weeks due to the massive amount of homework I now have which requires the full usage of my computer (because I'm a computer science student). I know this sucks for RPing, but be glad because if my workload was heavier we wouldn't have had as many RP sessions as we've had. I'll make it up to you all during Christmas break, when I'm going to look into building a dedicated EF server in the crawlspace so that it will be on 24/7. Depends on if I can find a way to get power down there.
